Inter - Provincial Competition Rules

The Inter-Provincial Competition will consist of three (3) rounds:

· Round One will take place at the Nova Scotia Carving Show

· Round Two will take place at the Prince Edward Island Carving Show

· Round Three will take place at the New Brunswick Carving Show

Each Province (NS, NB and PEI) is eligible to enter one team of six competitors (one piece per team member).

To be on the team, team members must be in attendance at the show in which they are competing. Carvings sent via a third party are not eligible. Preferably, the breakdown of the team members is two from each level – Novice, Intermediate and Open. However, if the breakdown of two from each level does not show up, then team members can be picked from any level attending, to make up the six.

The host Province may also have an additional two members on the team from the Youth level. The maximum number of team members is six for the guest Provinces and eight from the host Province. The team at each show may vary, as some of the competitors from one show may not attend all three shows. Thus, the team does not necessarily stay the same from show to show. If insufficient carvers from a particular Province enter their carvings in any of the three shows, then the team must proceed with less than six team members - it is the responsibility of the individual Provincial carving groups to generate the interest in the competition. If there are more than six carvers from a particular Province who want to be on the team, then the names must be placed into a hat and drawn to determine who will participate. This must be done prior to registration.

Each team member will designate one of his/her pieces to be entered into the Inter-Provincial Competition. Each of these competitors must select the piece they think will best represent the team. This selection must be made at registration time, and the designated piece cannot be changed after registration. The maximum number of carvings that may be entered in the competition is six for the guest Provinces (one from each team member) and eight for the host Province (one from each team member, plus two youth).

After the Judging has finished, the ribbons received by the Inter-Provincial entries will be awarded points as follows:

Carving Piece Placing Point(s) Awarded
First 4
Second 3
Third 2
Honourable Mention 1

A First place ribbon, and a ribbon for First Best of Show, awarded to the same carving, will be considered as one First ribbon. The same applies for Second and Third Best of Show.

If any of the six team members are in the head carving and place, then an extra point will be awarded for each ribbon, regardless of whether it is a first, second or third ribbon.

The total points for each Province will be added up after the judging at the final show of the year (New Brunswick), and the Province with the most points will be declared the winner and will receive the trophy. All three Provinces will share the expense for the trophy.
